As sports utility vehicles gain rising popularity throughout the world, the world's major sports car and high-end sedan makers are making forays into the SUV market.
According to industry sources on February 19, a string of global premium car makers,including Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Jaguar, plan to showoff their own SUVs starting from next year.
Rolls Royce, for example, which focused on high-end luxury sedans such as the Phantom and the Ghost, officially announced on February 18 that it will start mass-producing its own SUV model from 2017.
Bentley and Maserati also plan to show off their own SUVs within next year. Bentley intends to market an Audi Q7-based Bentayga, while Maserati will release the Levante,based on a concept car Kubang which it showed off two years ago. An Italian sports car maker Lamborghini also plans to develop its own SUV Urus and start mass-production from 2017.
