PETAH TIKVA, ISRAEL - ECI Telecom announced on August 12 that leading Russian operator Synterra CJSC is deploying the XDM-3000, a new high-capacity Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP). ECI's XDM-3000 has been introduced to address growing customer demand for capacity-intensive carrier-class infrastructure solutions that can simultaneously handle both Ethernet and TDM-based services, a fundamental element of the ECI 1Net framework for optimal network transition.

With the XDM-3000, Synterra will upgrade its core backbone infrastructure nodes in several cities across Russia, to improve network performance and more efficient routing of traffic with high network fault tolerance. The introduction of a higher performance and multi-service equipment will allow "Synterra" to optimize its network, and realize savings of more than 30% in the modernization of its network.

"Synterra's volume of network traffic is increasingly growing," stated Ekaterina Andreeva, a Synterra spokesperson. "The network is loaded both with traffic generated by our corporate customers as well as from our activities as carrier of carriers. To provide all of our business customers with the highest quality telecom services expected, we are constantly upgrading our network infrastructure and its capabilities."

The XDM-3000 is a cost-effective solution to optimize transport networks and provide premium services to customers. The XDM-3000 enables carriers to better leverage their existing infrastructure, expanding Ethernet services and relieving the capacity bottleneck in metro-core sites. The platform's unique ability for full non-blocking switching at 2 Mbps level, together with carrier class Ethernet MPLS capabilities, allow carriers to expand data services with fine bandwidth granularity over their network.

As part of ECI's 1Net framework, the XDM-3000 highlights a gradual, cost-optimized solution that supports premium Ethernet services over the well-proven SDH infrastructure while supporting a migration path to next-generation networks and services. As operators look to scale up their Ethernet services, they often find it more expedient just to add more SDH, supporting short time-to-market, fast return-on-investment, low risk and inherent carrier-class quality. Carriers and end users alike consider carrier-class Ethernet services delivered over a SDH infrastructure as premium services, addressing the strict requirements of mission-critical applications.

With 240 Gbps capacity, full low-order non-blocking connectivity for maximum flexibility, efficient concentration of both TDM and data traffic into WDM OTN pipes and Automatic Switched Optical Network (ASON) for increased network resiliency in metro core networks, the XDM-3000 is well suited to cope with increased traffic load in metro-core sites. This load is caused by growth of business services as well as voice and data traffic from 2G/3G mobile networks and triple-play services.

"Our goal is to enable our customers to rapidly and cost-efficiently introduce new carrier-class differentiated services over their existing infrastructure, while supporting a smooth migration path to next-generation networks. The XDM-3000 addresses this goal, by eliminating capacity bottlenecks and by simultaneously supporting full fine granularity switching, for TDM, Carrier Class Ethernet and MPLS," said Boris Mirkin, President, FSU Regional Business Unit, ECI Telecom. As part of the 1Net framework, the XDM-3000 is also supported by LightSoft and is fully integrated with ECI's additional platforms.
