Renault Samsung announced on March 25 that it will showcase a prototype EOLAB at the Seoul Motor Show 2015, first in Asia. Renault Samsung said that the EOLAB can drive up to 100 kilometers per liter on the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) basis.
With the carbon dioxide emission of 22 grams per kilometer, the EOLAB attracted hot attention when it was introduced at the Paris Motor Show last year. A string of global parts suppliers participated in the development of the EOLAB. Among them are Korea’s POSCO which supplied magnesium and state-of-the-art high-strength steel.
Michelin Tire developed tires only for EOLAB, while Continental developed a brake system for the new model. Renault plans to apply the technologies used for the EOLAB for its mass-production models on a step by step basis.
The EOLAB realized a frame air resistance coefficient of 0.235 cd. The model automatically lowers the height of its frame and bumper spoiler by 5 centimeters and 10 centimeters, respectively, when reaching the speed of over 70 kilometers per hour.
