Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors enjoyed record-breaking sales last month in the United States. Hyundai Motor sold 75,019 units in the U.S. market last month, renewing its previous monthly record of 70,907 set in May 2014. The March figure is also up 12 percent from 67,005 units a year ago.
The main drivers behind Hyundai Motor’s record-high sales in the U.S. include the strong sales of its big three brands—Elantra, Accent, and Genesis. In the U.S., the Genesis was sold 2,414 units last month, up 141 percent from a year ago. The sales of the Elantra also jumped 45 percent to 26,726 units from 18,470 units a year ago.
Kia Motors also enjoyed a 7.2-percent growth in March sales in the U.S., to 58,771 units. Its cumulative first-quarter U.S. sales reached 141,100 units, higher than its previous first-quarter record of 138,060 units set in 2012.
Kia Motors attributed the strong results to the hike in sales of the All New Sorento and the multipurpose vehicle All New Sedona. Their U.S. sales rose 16.9 percent and 398.4 percent, respectively, in the first quarter of this year.
