Opening ‘Magnum’s First’, the photo exhibition on April 4 in The Hanmi Museum of Photography and displaying pictures of eight world-class photographers including Henri Cartier-Bresson.
The exhibition is held where you can have a glance over the works of world-class documentary photographers like Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson.
On April 7th, The Hanmi Museum of Photography(www.photomuseum.or.kr) announced that it would hold ‘Magnum’s First’ exhibition with Magnum Photos, the agent of world-class photojournalists in the U.S. and Europe until August 15.
This exhibition is meaningful in that 83 photos, displayed for the first time by Magnum Photos in 1955, are revealed to the public in about half a century, and it is the first exhibition of The Hanmi Museum of Photography celebrating the 2015-2016 Year of France-Korea designated by the two nations in the 130th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between Seoul and Paris.
In Magnum’s First exhibition, you can watch the photo series of Gandhi’s last appearance of his life taken by Henri Cartier-Bresson as well as other 83 pieces of original black-and-white pictures by eight early members like Werner Bischof, Robert Capa, Ernst Haas, Erich Lessing, Jean Marc, Inge Morath and Marc Riboud who were engaged in establishing Magnum Photos.
The Hanmi Museum of Photography held an opening ceremony at the 20th floor of its headquarter building, Songpa-gu, Seoul at 5 p.m. on April 4th. There are almost 100 participants from French Cultural Center, Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding under the Auspices of UNESCO and Korea Foundation who supported the exhibition.
“It is meaningful to have a glance over the works of eight legendary photographers from Magnum. The photos have history in them,” said Song young-suk, director of The Hanmi Museum of Photography, “I would like to share the times of 1950s and the thrill of the exhibition which shows creativity, artistry and experimenting spirits of the Magnum photographers at the time.”
Meanwhile, The Hanmi Museum of Photography is the first museum of photography in Korea, which shows a variety of activities like photo exhibition, photographer support, academic works and publication.
