China’s IT companies are expanding their presence rapidly not only in the smartphone market but also in the laptop computer market. Lenovo of China overtook HP of the United States in the global laptop market in the first quarter of this year, ranking as the world’s largest laptop supplier.
In the global laptop computer market, Lenovo acquired a market share of 20.4 percent in the first quarter of this year, overtaking HP which ranked No. 1 in the fourth quarter of last year with a share of 22.2 percent. HP saw its market share dwindle to 19.3 percent in the first quarter of this year.
Following them were Dell with 13.0 percent market share, Asus with 10.4 percent, and Acer with 9.9 percent. Apple, which ranked No. 5 last year with a share of 10.5 percent, slipped to No. 6 with a share of 8.8 percent.
Japan’s Toshiba and Korea’s Samsung Electronics gained a share of 5.5 percent and 2.6 percent, respectively, in the first quarter of this year, ranking No. 7 and 8, respectively.
