The Korea Institute of Information & Telecommunication Facilities Engineering (ITFE) hosted the 2015 Spring Seminar on Information and Communication Facilities on May 28 at the Korea Science and Technology Center in Seoul.

Under the theme “Intelligent CCTV Cameras and Data Integration,” the 2015 Spring Seminar on Information and Communication Facilities shed light on the outlook for convergence video security, CCTV camera technologies and the current status and utilization of data integration. A variety of lectures were prepared to allow seminar attendees to understand the current status of CCTV and data integration technologies and contemplate future directions for the advancement of such technologies.

Specifically, Jeon Sang-kwon, Head of the 4Ss Division at DongNam ENS (a Korean manufacturer of upper and lower control arms) delivered a lecture on the current status and future outlook for convergence video security. Kim Hwae, who’s on the board of directors at MetaBuild (a leading Korea software developer) spoke about auto parts manufacturers’ moves to utilize big data analytics in their efforts for improving product quality. Park Seong-jin from Honeywell Korea gave a lecture on new technologies and trends in the physical security market. And Park Si-young, executive director at Data Streams (a Korean developer of data management solutions) talked about real-time big data analytics systems and actual applications.

In addition, Shim Jin-hong, Head of the Disaster Information and Communication Department at the Ministry of Public Safety and Security, spoke about how disaster and safety information systems should be built in an integrated manner. Government official Seo Seong-il from the Ministry of Science and ICT and Future Planning, articulated the major content of the Act on the Development of Cloud Computing and policy directions.

After that, Kim Seong-Man, former chairman of the ITFE, took to the podium to welcome the opening of the 2015 Spring Seminar on Information and Communication Facilities. “At a time when Korean society is wrestling with the tough task of creating jobs, we have gathered here to discuss important future technologies, such as intelligent CCTV cameras, the Internet of things (IoT), cloud computing and financial technology (also known as FinTech). Thus, this 2015 spring seminar deserves so much attention from the older generations, as well as younger generations, who will lead this country to the future,” Kim said.

Delivering a congratulatory address, Kim Woo-sik, CEO of the Incheon Development and Tourism Corporation (IDTC) mentioned, “This 2015 spring seminar is important in that it will serve as a trigger for the development of intelligent CCTV cameras that can address the problem of privacy invasions by public CCTV cameras.”

Oh Hae-seok, former Special Advisor to the President on IT and currently professor at Gachon University, took the podium to deliver his keynote speech. “S. Korea needs to make changes to the current environment, where the right way of introducing policies supporting FinTech is shrugged off. We need to reform our systems in line with global market trends. Domestic banking industry has to ponder over the introduction of FinTech seriously before foreign companies make inroads into the domestic FinTech market,” Oh stressed.

“As our society has witnessed a rise in sex crimes and various terror attacks, CCTV camera systems have become an indispensable part of our fight against them. This 2015 spring seminar, I believe, has served as a great opportunity to see where the CCTV industry stands and where it is headed,” said Yang Jae-soo (professor at Dankook University), head of the organizing committee for the 2015 Spring Seminar on Information and Communication Facilities.
