Despite strong challenges posed by Chinese companies, Korea's TV makers continue to enjoy their premium presence in the global TV market. LG Electronics is mass-producing OLED TVs, first in the world, while Samsung Electronics is focusing on premium models such as LCD-based SUHD TVs.

Thanks to their premium strategies, the average sales price of Korean-made TVs is showing an upward trend. According to market research firm DisplaySearch on May 31, the global TV market's ASP stood at US$410.80 in the first quarter of this year, down slightly from $411.20 a year ago.

Among the world's top-five TV manufacturing countries, consisting of Korea, China, Japan, the United States, and the European Union, Korea was the only country to have achieved a positive growth in TV average selling price.

Korea's TV ASP rose 10 percent year on year to $505.30 in the first quarter of this year from $459.40 a year before. Korea was the only country having higher than $500 ASP in TV areas. In contrast, China saw its ASP fall 5.6 percent to $415.30 from $440.10 during the same period.
