Daum Kakao announced on June 8 that its investment subsidiary K Venture Group will absorb a user experience design specialist Tangram Design Lab as a subsidiary by acquiring a 51-percent stake.
Tangram Design Lab, founded in 2008, has specialized in software and product designs. It has won the iF Design Awards, one of the world’s three most renowned design awards, for seven straight years starting from 2008, and received the Japan Good Design Awards for two consecutive years from 2013.
Tangram Design Lab launched into the Internet of Things business area through its subsidiary Tangram Factory which is set to launch “smart rope” in Korea, the United States, and Japan simultaneously within this summer.
Smart rope is an Internet of Things-based jump rope which virtually shows the number of jumps the users make by using the sensor attached to the grip and 23 LED lights. Through U.S. crowd social funding site Kickstarter, Tangram Factory has so far raised more than three times the money it aimed to attract.
