Korea’s ICT trade balance registered a US$7-billion-level surplus last month, first in 2015.
The Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning announced on June 10 that the nation’s ICT exports amounted to $14.28 billion last month, up 2.0 percent from a year ago, while ICT imports rose 1.2 percent year on year to $6.84 billion.
The nation’s ICT trade balance, accordingly, stood at a surplus of $7.44 billion last month. This was the first time for the nation’s monthly ICT trade to record a $7-billion surplus this year.
After registering a growth rate of 6.2 percent in January, the nation’s ICT export growth has declined, recording a negative growth of 3.2 percent in February, 3.5 percent in March, and 2.7 percent in April.
The nation’s ICT trade surplus has remained tad below the $7-billion level, standing at $6.2 billion in January, $5.7 billion in February, $6.8 billion in March, and $6.7 billion in April.
By item, the exports of mobile phones, semiconductors, and computer and peripheral devices grew 26.6 percent, 4.3 percent, and 9.4 percent, respectively, in May, while those of display panels and digital TVs fell 4.8 percent and 46.5 percent each.
