Hyundai Motor’s Sonata Hybrid enjoyed record-breaking monthly sales in the United States last month.
According to industry sources on June 14, the sales of the Sonata Hybrid stood at 2,943 units last month in the U.S., the highest monthly sales since it was released first in June 2011.
In sales terms, the Sonata Hybrid ranked No. 5 among the hybrid cars sold in the U.S., standing behind Toyota’s Prius and Camry. Sonata Hybrid sales rose by 40.5 percent compared to a year ago, while Kia Motors’ K5 Hybrid sales also jumped by 42.3 percent year on year.
In contrast, other hybrid cars within the top-ten rank suffered a negative sales growth. The Prius and Camry Hybrid, which rank No. 1 and 3, respectively, recorded a negative year-on-year growth of 25.2 percent and 38.9 percent, respectively.
The share of the Sonata Hybrid in the U.S. hybrid car market rose to 7.3 percent last month from 4.0 percent a year ago. The overall Sonata sales in the U.S. totaled 18,018 units last month, with the share of the hybrid model in total sales rising to 16.3 percent from 10.3 percent a year ago.
