The popularity of TV monitors is rising among one-person households.
The TV monitor, mounted with a TV tuner, is used as a monitor for desktop computers but if the user pushes a switch button on the remote controller, it turns into a TV. The TV monitor market is expanding rapidly not only in Korea but in overseas markets, including Japan and China.
According to market research firm IDC, the share of TV monitors in the overall monitor market is forecast to expand 6.5 percent this year from 5.8 percent last year.
Another trend is that TV monitors are getting larger in size. IDC forecast that the share of 27-inch-plus monitors would rise up to 29 percent this year from 25.4 percent last year.
Major monitor makers, including Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, are expanding their 27-inch-plus large monitor lineups. Samsung, for example, released 30 different kinds of large monitors, compared to last year’s 25.
