Hyundai Heavy Industries is likely to win an order for 16 14,000 TEU (20-foot equivalent unit) containerships.
According to industry sources on June 19, the world's largest shipping group AP Moller Maersk recently signed a letter of intent with Hyundai Heavy Industries for the construction of nine 14,000 TEU containerships. This contract will likely to include an option for seven more same-spec ships.
The value of this contract, if the option is exercised, would reach about $2 billion or 2.2 trillion won. These ships are slated for delivery from 2017 on a step by step basis.
In late May, Hyundai also obtained an order for six 14,000 TEU containerships from CMA CGM of France. The value of these ships is estimated at about $700 million.
