Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors saw their combined market share in China fall by about 1 percentage point last month.
According to industry sources on June 23, their combined market share reached 9.1 percent last month, down 0.9 percentage point from 10 percent a month ago.
Their market share fluctuated over the past several months, standing at 10 percent in December 2014, 8.8 percent in January, 9.9 percent in February, and 10.1 percent in March. For the January-May period of this year, their joint Chinese market share stood at 9.5 percent.
Key factors behind the sharp decline in their Chinese market share last month include the plunge in their sales volume. They sold 129,000 units last month in China, down 9.8 percent from a year ago.
Hyundai Motor suffered a 12.1-percent decline in sales in China last month, while Kia Motors recorded a 5.9 percent fall. Volkswagen, the best-selling foreign brand in China, also suffered a 12-percent decline in sales volume but maintained its top spot with a market share of 18.9 percent.
