KT, a telecom giant, will open their Show App Store, where mobile service providers and users can freely buy and sell content for mobile phones, in November.
KT is poised to make inroads into the mobile applications market based on its low data usage and registration fees. KT is expected to eventually compete with SK Telecom, which opened its own app store in early September, in the mobile applications market.
KT said it is determined to take the lead in the app store market by giving top priority to securing convenience and efficiency for users, and the profitability and easiness of development for the application developer.
Users can download applications from the KT app store free of charge by using a wireless LAN. KT will also charge users one-seventh of the current data usage fee for downloading applications in a 3G or WiBro area.
But while SK Telecom allows other mobile service users to use its own app store applications, KT will permit only its own Smartphone subscribers to download applications from its Show App store.
