A dispute surrounding Samsung Electronics’ streaming music service “Milk Music” is fully settled.
The Korea Music Copyright Association (KMCA) renewed its music copyright contract with a music service provider Soribada which provides sound sources for Milk Music, nine months after it notified the cancellation of its copyright contract on October 11, 2014.
The renewed contract will become valid from the beginning of July this year. The KMCA approved the renewal of the agreement, on condition that Milk Music will strengthen its premium service. Milk Music is a streaming music service launched by Samsung Electronics in September 2014. The service can be used only by Galaxy smartphone users.
In October, the KMCA notified the cancellation of the copyright deal, asking Samsung to turn Milk Music into a paid service. Over the past nine months, Milk Music withheld its payment of royalties to the KMCA, while continuously providing its service. In April 2015, Milk Music finally launched a 5,000 won-a-month pay service to satisfy the requirement of the KMCA.
