Hyundai Motor announced on July 8 that it will recall about 140,000 units of Sonata vehicles in the United States and Canada due to the front seat safety belt buckle malfunction.
The vehicles subject to the recall are 2015 Sonata models produced between April 25 and December 4, 2014.
Hyundai Motor noted that if the metal tongue on the belt is forced into the buckle at an angle, the buckle may jam and won't fasten. Once the safety belt is not properly fastened, a warning light appears on the dashboard.
Hyundai Motor said it has had no report of any accidents caused by the safety belt buckle problem. Hyundai plans to replace or repair the safety belt buckles of the vehicles subject to the recall.
