The electronic medical equipment market, currently valued at approximately US$130 billion, tends to become bigger and bigger on the strength of the development of information technology, nanotechnology, and biotechnology. With life expectancy prolonged, the number of aged patients with chronic diseases such as cardiovascular, cancer and respiratory diseases, are on the increase. As it turns out, the electronic medical equipment market, the diagnostic equipment market in particular, is expected to expand consistently.
Under these circumstances, VIMED Systems is poised to make investments in electronic medical equipment and diagnostic devices. The company is currently focusing on High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) diagnostic and treatment equipment, for which it obtained permission from the government in June 2007. It means that this technology is important in upgrading the country's industrial structure and improving its industrial competitiveness.
This technology makes it possible to distinguish normal cells from abnormal ones and effectively create 3D images for cancerous parts of tissues, while shortening the treatment time and enhancing safety. Thanks to this technology, it is possible to irradiate only the cancerous parts with the high-intensity focused ultrasound.
VIMED Systems plans to use this technology in digital image diagnostic devices, molecular diagnostic devices, digital watch systems, and treatment equipment. The company will establish a lab in Seattle and a similar one in China. It also plans to go global in strategic tie-ups with global enterprises.
