Amid ever-rising competition for the leadership role in the 5G telecommunications technology initiative, LG U+ joined hands with Nokia to establish a 5G R&D center in Korea.
LG U+ announced on July 26 that it will join forces with a global network equipment maker Nokia to set up the "LG U+ Nokia Nex-Generation Technology Development Center" which will be responsible for research and development of next-generation network technologies, including 5G and Internet of Things.
The two parties plan to jointly develop a variety of future technologies, including core 5G technologies such as large-capacity data transmission, low-delay wireless access, and cloud virtual base station and IoT, through this R&D center.
They will also cooperate in every stage of testing for 5G technology development ranging from development and testing of base stations to core networks and terminals.
Other areas of cooperation include the development of LTE-A technologies, including frequency binding and small cell, which need to be developed to ensure the 5G commercialization by 2020.
