Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors turned out to have the highest share of domestic production ratios among major global car makers. The higher the share of their domestic production in total sales, the more likely it is that they made greater contributions to the national economy.
According to Japan’s automobile research center Fourin on July 28, the local production ratio of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors stood at 44.8 percent, the highest among nine major auto makers which have more than 3 million units of global car output.
In 2014, the Korean car manufacturers produced 8 million automobiles worldwide, of which 3.59 million were produced in Korea.
In terms of domestic car production scale, they ranked No. 2 behind Toyota’s 4.21 million units. Following them were Volkswagen with 2.68 million units and GM with 2.09 million units. Toyota ranked No. 2 in terms of local production ratio. Toyota produced 10.5 million cars worldwide last year, of which 4.21 million units or 40.1 percent were produced in Japan.
