The sales of import cars totaled 20,707 units last month, up 14.3 percent from a year ago but down 14.7 percent from a month ago. According to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association on August 6, July import car sales stood at 20,707 units.
By brand, Mercedes-Benz came on top in sales terms with 3,976 units, followed by BMW with 3,926 units, Volkswagen with 2,998 units, Audi with 2,617 units, and Ford with 908 units.
They were followed by Mini with 894 units, Toyota with 652 units, Land Rover with 646 units, Lexus with 637 units, Peugeot with 610 units, Nissan with 592 units, Chrysler with 543 units, Honda with 393 units, and Porsche with 344 units.
By the size of engine displacement, those with an engine displacement of less than 2.0 liters accounted for 11,159 units or 53.9 percent of the total, followed by the 2.0-3.0-liter units (7,542 units or 36.4%), the 3.0-4.0-liter units (1,340 units or 6.5%) and the 4.0-liter-plus units (550 units, or 2.7%).
