The main cause behind the accident which inflicted injuries on two noncom missioned officer at demilitarized zone turned out to PMD series mines planted by North Korea with an aim of killing people, according to multiple media outlets.

The South Korean military restarted loudspeaker propaganda broadcast in retaliation for the North planting land mines last week that maimed two South Korean soldiers.

"We strongly condemn this cowardly act, which would be unthinkable for a normal military," Major General Ku Hong-mo of South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

Criticism on the provocation is prospected to become fierce as it seriously violates the ceasefire agreement, the Ministry of National Defense said on Monday. The wreckage of the explosion collected from the spot coincides with North Korea's PMD series mines.

The vice chief of the joint investigation team said, "We are sure that the explosion is done by North Korea's PMD series mines. It was intentionally planted to hurt our operation strength."

There were six accidents caused by North Korea's mines during the period of 1966 to 1967. This was the first accident in 47 years. It is said that United Nations Command is also taking the accident as the serious violation of the ceasefire agreement.

The vice chief said, "Since the wreckage is not rusty and corroded, they were planted not long ago."

Due to the mines, two South Korean sergeants were critically wounded on Aug.4 when they were patrolling demilitarized zone in Paju. The explosion nearly severed the right ankle of Kim and a larger part of both legs of Ha.
