The number of cars recalled during the first eight months of this year totaled 850,000 units, a level similar to last year’s total, according to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority.
The number of auto recalls for the January-August period of this year totaled 849,149 units, including 745,829 domestic cars (25 different models) and 103,320 import cars (240 models)
This figure is similar to last year’s total of 869,808 units, including 733,175 domestic cars coming in 32 different types and 136,000 import cars in 400 different types.
The number of auto recalls, accordingly, rose 54 percent compared to a year ago, with the type of vehicles increasing by 10.9 percent year on year. For the first eight months of last year, 551,270 cars were recalled, including 487,508 domestic cars (17 types) and 63,762 import cars (224 types)
Of this year’s eight-month total, Renault Samsung’s SM3 and SM5 accounted for the largest share of 392,053 units. They were recalled due to defects in engine mounts.
