On Saturday night, there was a head-on collision between Hyundai Motor's two Sonata at the company's street circuit in Songdo International Business District.
One is being sold in the local market while the other is for export. This was an event prepared by the motor company, which attempted to dispel doubt raised by clients and netizens, who say "Cars for export have higher quality than vehicles sold in the local market."
On the survey done on the same day, around 74 percent of the respondents said that they is a safety gap between Sonata for the local market and the car for the U.S. market.
Sonata was selected as "Top Safety Pick" this year from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
In order to prove fairness, the company let both auto professor from Daelim University and power blogger choose cars respectively and conducted a collision test. After countdown, the two cars drove at 56 km/h face-to-face and collided head-on.
After the collision, the doors of both cars opened and their air bag inflated. Under the Korean New Car Assessment Program by the Ministry of Land and Transport, both cars received the highest ratings in the injury areas of head, chest and legs.
