Indonesia’s game market is drawing hot attention from global mobile game makers as the share of young generation grows rapidly and the prevalence rate of smartphones is rising fast.
The online game market has already grown sharply along with the growth of the Internet uptake rate. At present, the number of online game users stood at 52 million, with about one out of five Indonesians enjoying online games.
According to eMarketer, Indonesia’s smartphone uptake rate rose to 21.0 percent in 2014 from 13.8 percent in 2013. In other words, as many as 60 million Indonesians currently use smartphones. This figure is forecast to rise up to 100 million by 2018.
Against this backdrop, Korea’s major game makers, including Gamevil, Netmarble and NHN Entertainment, are making bigger forays into Southeast Asian markets, including Indonesia.
