LG U+ is taking an initiative to establish “Internet-of-Things officetel” which allows control of various switches, plugs, and home electronics through smartphones.
LG U+ announced on September 13 that it signed a memorandum with a real estate developer Angang Engineering & Construction to build Korea’s first IoT officetel.
Angang Engineering & Construction plans to sell in lots an officetel with about 1,000 rooms, located in Hanam in Gyeonggi Province, in November. LG U+ plans to set up IoT service for this officetel. Officetel is a cross between office space and a hotel room preferred by SOHO operators.
The residents of the IoT officetel can check whether doors or windows are closed through smartphones even when they are outside. In addition, they also can control boiler and gas valves and various home electronics, including air conditioners, when they are away from home.
LG U+ plans to expand the coverage of its home IoT business not only to officetels but to other massive housing complexes.
An LG U+ official said, “We will expand our IoT services for public housing projects, including apartments, as part of an effort to lead the establishment of new residential culture here in Korea. Through partnerships with various companies, we will increase the number of our IoT platforms.”
