In the latest VDS (vehicle dependability study) test conducted by JD Power in the UK, Kia Motors ranked No. 2 among major automobile brands, standing right behind Skoda, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group.

According to industry sources on September 18, Kia Motors achieved 83 points in the VDS test, ranking No. 2 among 26 auto brands, with its CEED ranking No. 1 in the compact car category.

In the VDS test, Skoda gained a score of 77, ranking No. 1, followed by Kia Motors with 83, Suzuki with 86, Nissan with 87, Mercedes-Benz/Toyota with 88, Volvo with 93, Volkswagen with 95, Vauxhall with 98, and Peugeot/Seat with 99.

JD Power’s VDS results are determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles over the past 12 months, with a lower score reflecting higher level of overall dependability.

A Kia Motors official said, “We worked hard for so long to improve the overall quality of our vehicles. JD Power’s VDS test results reflect our ongoing efforts toward this goal.” In the meantime, Kia Motors sold 50,228 units in the UK market during the January-August period of this year, up 2 percent from the same period last year.
