SK Telecom and Samsung Electro-mechanics signed a memorandum of understanding related to Low Power Wide Area Networks, or LPWAN, on Wednesday.
LPWAN is a technology which allows years of battery life through wide radius of communications and low power consumption. It can effectively measure simple information such as temperature, humidity, weight and location.
Both firms plan to develop application module optimized for LPWAN, and find out diverse practical solution to control and track bicycles, control smart streetlight and read a gas meter.
The application module can control device for communications network like central processing unit on computer.
They plan to create an eco-system where small enterprises interested in Internet of Things can produce device without extra cost for module development.
