On Oct. 13, the President of Samsung Electronics LCD division, Jang Won-ki, made a keynote speech at IMID 2009 Korea held in KINTEX convention center in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province.

Jang said "The LCD industry will enter a second phase of its growth trough New LCD. Until now, the LCD market has been replacing old CRT market and that was the first phase of LCD industry. The second phase will replace analog signals with digital signals creating a digital lifestyle with values that consumers have never experienced before. The new concept of the LCD industry will be introduced."

He continued, "New LCD is described as the key phrase of the LCD solution for a digital lifestyle.  It is an environmentally-friendly display that can be used anywhere, anytime, and at any size. The LCD industry will keep growing with new LCD-TVs, cutting edge IT display technology, and new application products."

"New LCD-TVs require a huge screen with wide viewing angles, so that viewers can experience images like reality. In order to produce super high quality images, it needs to have 3D display technology, 480 Hz displaying frequency and an Ultra High Definition [3,840 x 2,160] or above resolution display, which is more than four times the resolution of Full HD displays." Jang went on to say, "Also, the network TV with the convergence of broadcasting, Internet, and telecommunication will take the role of a digital hub connecting people with various contents to create a digital life style."

He also mentioned about advanced IT displays. "New notebooks will evolve to ultra mobile AV-PC with high energy efficiency, and new monitors will be developed for various uses such as desktop PCs, notebook PCs, TVs, and special monitors."

Finally, Jang discussed about strategy of Samsung LCD for the future. "Samsung will try to push 3D-TV standardization as well as producing 60-inch and above large screen TVs using technologies like Ultra High Definition and 480 Hz frequency. More quality improvement will be made while reducing manufacturing costs. Samsung will also be challenged to create new values in the field of new applications like e-Paper and DID where more outside visibility, reliability and durability is required." He finished with his last words, "Through the strong efforts and hard work, the LCD industry has improved tremendously and become one of the largest industries in Korea. With collaboration and development of new technologies, I would like for the LCD industry to reach another milestone accomplishment in the future."
