Global IT companies such as Microsoft, Facebook, and Samsung Electronics are rushing into the augmented reality business. Augmented reality refers to the technology that adds an extra layer of visual information on top of the perception of the real world in real time.
For instance, the augmented reality technology allows you to get the related information if you have smartphone camera scan any buildings on the street.
Google established an experience-type webpage by using the augmented reality technology for the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) which opened its curtain on October 1 in Busan.
The viewer can enjoy the opening video of the BIFF which is taken by special 360-degree cameras at the website, plus detailed information on actors and directors through a single click.
Other IT companies such as Microsoft, Facebook, and Samsung Electronics are also developing their own augmented reality/virtual reality headsets through mergers and acquisitions. This move is part of their efforts to dominate the future platform, based on expectations that the number of augmented reality/virtual reality-related contents and applications will expand sharply in the future.
