Six out of ten Korean Internet users are everyday using instant messaging services and the most frequently used instant messenger is KakaoTalk.

A global market research firm TNS released the “Connected Life 2015” report on October 6, which contains an analysis of digital behaviors and usage patterns of global Internet users.

The report showed that 55 percent of global Internet users and 61 percent of Korean Internet users are everyday using instant messengers, up 12 percent and 17 percent, respectively, from a year ago. 73 percent of Korean IM users are using KakaoTalk every day, followed by NateOn (9%) and Facebook Messenger (9%).

Naver’s global messenger Line is most frequently used by the Internet users in Asia, including Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. Among social networking services which have a higher level of openness compared to instant messengers, Facebook kept its No. 1 spot as 30 percent of global users said they are using it every day.

Even in Korea, Facebook ranked No. 1 with 33 percent of people showing preference toward it, followed by Kakao Story with 30 percent and Kakao Group with 21 percent.
