The number of import cars newly registered in September in Korea totaled 20,381 units, up 12.0 percent from a month ago.
According to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association on October 6, the September sales of import cars marked a positive year-to-year growth of 19.7 percent compared to 17,027 units a year ago, with the January-September cumulative import car sales estimated at 179,120 units, up 22.8 percent year on year.
By brand, Mercedes-Benz was sold 4,329 units last month, followed by BMW with 3,506 units, Audi with 3,401 units, and Volkswagen with 2,901 units.
Following them were Ford (including Lincoln Continental) with 854 units, Lexus with 781 units, Peugeot with 641 units, Chrysler (including Jeep) with 579 units, Toyota with 576 units, and Honda with 498 units.
Behind these brands are Mini with 479 units, Nissan with 415 units, Volvo with 342 units, Porsche with 336 units, Jaguar with 234 units, Land Rover with 180 units, Infiniti with 147 units, Cadillac with 91 units, Citroen with 38 units, Fiat with 32 units, Bentley with 17 units, and Rolls Royce with 4 units.
By engine size, the vehicles with an engine displacement of less than 2.0 liters accounted for the largest share of 55.1 percent or 11,229 units.
