LG Chem, the nation's chemical and materials maker, said on Sunday it signed a deal to supply water processing reverse osmosis filters for eight seawater desalination projects in five nations including Egypt.
The chemical company is set to supply 17,000 reverse osmosis filters produced in plant located in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province of South Korea, by the end of next year. The amount of order is estimated to be around $8 million.
Industry watchers said 17,000 reverse osmosis filters will enable 200,000 tons of seawater to be purified into fresh water a day. This is an equivalent to the amount that around 150,000 households (a four-member family) can use. A reverse osmosis filter, known as the most optimized water processing material for family and industry, uses the method of purifying water by passing water molecule through high pressure.
LG Chem's official said, "We are planning to expand business network from the current 12 countries in the Middle East and Europe to 17 nations, targeting the global water processing reverse osmosis filter market set to grow to 1.8 trillion won by 2018."
