Jung Yeon-tae, former CEO of KOSCOM (a Korean financial IT services provider), has been inaugurated as chairman of Korea IT Times, the only English-language IT news daily in South Korea.
Korea IT Times announced on November 3 that it held a board meeting on October 30 and appointed former KOSCOM CEO Jung Yeon-tae as chairman of Korea IT Times.
Chairman Jung has held various positions, including Chairman of the Innovation Forum for Nation, President of the SNS Industry Promotion Agency, Chairman of the Creative Economy Policy Forum, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Big Data Future Forum. As a result, he has been regarded as a leading figure in advancing the government's creative economy initiative and bringing innovation to the nation.
In addition, Chairman Jung has headed the executive committee of the headquarters of the pan-national movement to erect statues of independence fighter Ahn Jung-geun. A statue of Ahn Jung-geun is scheduled to be unveiled at the Memorial Hall of the National Assembly on November 11.
"Many people point out that the Korean IT industry, which has been the driving force behind South Korea's economic growth and industrial development, is losing steam. Therefore, we need to breathe new life into the IT industry. As the chairman of Korea IT Times, the only English-language daily dedicated to the IT industry, I will make every effort to bring about a renaissance in the Korean IT industry," said Chairman Jung in his inaugural speech.
Born in Uljin, Gyeongsangbuk-do, in 1956, Chairman Jung graduated from Whimoon High School and Hanyang University in South Korea. In 1980, he flew to New York and continued his studies in the United States. He earned a master's degree in metallurgy and materials engineering and studied a doctorate program in network and communications management from the Stevens Institute of Technology Graduate School. He also managed companies in New York for 26 years.
Currently, Chairman Jung serves as Chairman of the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA) New York Metropolitan Chapter and Chairman of the Asian Chapter of the U.S.-based Wireless Communications Association International (WCA). In 2008, Jung assumed the leadership of KOSCOM. He also served as vice chairman of Samjong KPMG Economic Research Institute and adjunct professor at Hanyang University Graduate School of Information and Communications.
