Samsung Electronics recently announced their newest product, the Needle Slim LCD television. It is a 40-inch LCD TV which is only 3.9mm thick, making it the thinnest television on the market. To visualize how thin this television is, imagine the thickness of 2 of Korea's 500 Won coins. Because of the television's thickness, it is named the Needle Slim.
Samsung Electronics' previous slimmest television was 10.8mm, making this television 3 times thinner.
Samsung created this thin television by placing two attached mirrors about 2 mm thick each for the screen before installing the LCD backlight unit.
This television features a HD quality picture, a 120Hz drive, and a 5000:1 contrast ratio.
Chang Teh-suk, a representative for Samsung Electronics' LCD Department, stated, "This LCD panel product will start a trend of slim television products which people will continue to see in the IT market."
This product will be displayed on October 28, 2009 at the exhibition FPD International 2009 held in Yokohama, Japan.
