South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has won a deal to build two very large crude carriers (VLCC) for Maran Tankers Management (MTM), a unit of Greece's largest shipper, Angelicoussis Shipping Group.

Under the agreement with MTM, Daewoo Shipbuilding will build two eco-friendly VLCCs (330 meters long, 60 meters wide), equipped with high-efficiency engines and the latest fuel-saving technologies. According to DSME, the two LLCCs will be built at its shipyard in Okpo, South Korea and be delivered to MTM sometime in 2017.

This is the third VLCC order received by DSME this year from Angelicoussis Shipping Group. The Greek shipping giant had ordered two VLCCs in January and another two in April. In May, the Greek shipping giant also ordered a fresh pair of suezmaxes.

Angelicoussis Shipping Group, since its first order in 1994, has ordered a total of 84 carriers, 25 of which are currently being constructed at DSME's ship yards in Okpo and Mangalia (Romania).
