On November 30, the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning held the 16th Software Industry Day Awards Ceremony at the Coex Center in Seoul to cheer up the members of the Korean software industry.
Hosted by the Korea Software Industry Association (KOSA) and the National IT industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), the 16th Software Industry Awards Ceremony drew nearly 300 attendees, including Minister Choi Yang-hee of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Rep. Jeon Ha-jin and Rep. Kang Eun-hee.
At the awards ceremony, 38 outstanding contributors to the development of the Korean software industry won prizes; 18 took home citations and awards, including the top accolades in the software industry, the Korea Software Grand Prize and the Korea Software Technology Grand Prize.
The winner of the 2015 Korea Software Grand Prize was ESE’s Rino, an integrated smart control platform on which various kinds of control apps can be freely installed and operated just like the way apps are installed on smartphones.
Simply put, Rino, developed by Korean software developer ESE, is an integrated smart control center that enables the systemic management of cities, transportation, construction, disasters and ports. Just like smartphones gets versatile with the addition of various apps, users of Rino can carry out various tasks by installing a variety of control apps.
Rino furnishes all the common functions needed for the setup of a control center, from GISs (Geographic Information System), CCTV camera connections, and alarm functions to situation display board controls and real-time monitoring. When specific control apps get onboard, Rino can perform the functions of a more professional control system.
Take crime prevention for example. When Rino is outfitted with apps related to anti-crime CCTV cameras, surveillance cameras, CCTV camera controls, detection of break-ins and security alarms, operators of crime prevention control centers can do their job in an easier, simpler manner.
Since Rino basically comes with the common functions required for the establishment of a control center and is a buildable platform that can interoperate with diverse control service systems, Rino can easily set up intelligent control centers that take care of all the industrial and urban needs, from transportation, crime prevention, disaster management and energy to ports, airports, firefighting, national defense and water supply facilities.
In the category of outstanding contributors to the development of the software industry, six contributors including Director Shin Seok-kyu at the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) received presidential citations; CEO Park Jong-hwan of Loc & All (developer of popular smartphone navigation app Kimgisa) won the Order of Industrial Service Merit. The Order of Service Merit was awarded to Professor Yoo Hae-yong at Dankook University for his participation in government-led major policy decision-making processes and his contribution to the establishment of national IT policies and the realization of the government’s creative economy vision. Two Industrial Service Medals were handed out to vice-president Kang Kyo-chul of Samsung Electronics and CEO Choi Chang-nam of translation software developer Systran International.
