Incheon International Airport said on Tuesday four low-cost carriers started to operate a total of eight new routes from November to the end of December.
Jin Air held a commemorative event to mark its new operation from Incheon to Hanoi and from Incheon to Kalibo. The airline company is set to begin the operation from Incheon to Phuket on Wednesday and from Incheon to Honolulu on Dec.16. The route from Incheon to Honolulu is the first long distance route among local low-cost carriers.
Jeju Air is set to operate a flight from Incheon to Da Nang on Wednesday and Tway Air to operate a flight from Incheon to Ho Chi Minh on Dec.24 seven times a week.
Earlier on Nov.7, Vietnam's low cost carrier Vietjet Air started the operation from Incheon to Ho Chi Minh seven times a week and Tway Air started from Incheon to Macao on Nov.27.
Due to the expansion of the LLC's routes, the total number of operations has increased to 52 times and 900,000 more visitors are expected to come per year, according to the airport.
The portion of low cost carriers, which accounted for 1.3 percent only in 2009, has jumped to 15.3 percent in October. The operation of LCC in the Incheon Airport has risen from 5 in 2009 to 16 this year.
