The Wife of Chung Myung-whun, the Music Director of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) was booked on charges of defamation.
The Cyber Crime Investigation Team of Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said on 27 December that it indicted Chung’s wife, surnamed Koo, without detention for allegedly directing SPO employees to spread false information about the former SPO CEO Park Hyun-jung.
Police allege that Koo is the mastermind behind the defamation plan, instructing SPO employees to falsely accuse the former CEO of sexual and verbal abuse and demand her immediate resignation.
With Park often at odds with Maestro Chung during her term, Koo, practically Chung’s manager who takes care of his administrative work, may have planned the crime targeted at Park, Police suspect.
Police previously launched an investigation into this case, but in August they cleared Koo of the allegations for lack of evidence. Undauntedly, Park filed a petition to Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency to investigate the alleged libel case targeted at her. With the progress of the investigation, all the details about the case are expected to be revealed.
