Last year, as many as 7,900 Lexus cars were sold in Korea, hitting a record since Toyota moved into the Korean market.
According to Toyota Korea on January 4, the number of new Lexus brand cars newly registered during the months of 2015 was 7,900. During the month of December alone, the number of newly registered cars reached 1,000, surpassing the number of cars sold in 2007 (7,520).
A Toyota Korea official said, "Based on our own Lexus sales figures, it was over 1,000 units. As for Toyota brand cars which hit the 7,800 level at the end of the year, its actual sales number exceeded that of originally targeted at 7,700."
Lexus and Toyota will launch new car models such as the new RX, Prius, and RAV4 Hybrid this year to continue their momentum. As the tariff duties for cars imported from the United States were repealed effective on January 1 this year as part of the free trade agreement between Korea and the United States, Toyota could reduce its retail price for the Camry (including Camry Hybrid) as it is assembled in America. In addition to the Camry, the company will offer discounts on other America-assembled models such as the Sienna and Avalon from late January.
