At CES 2016, held by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) on Jan. 6 through 9, a group of LG U+ officials led by former LG U+ Vice Chairman Lee Sang-chul, who currently serves as an advisor, had a meeting with Kim Ki-hyuk, CEO of Sungwoo Mobile (a leading IT company among Korean SMEs) at the Sungwoo Mobile booth and agreed to join forces in the smart education market based on 2-in-1 tablet computers and in the next-generation home IoT services sector. They mainly discussed ways to offer LG U+’s major home IoT services, such as Home Schooling, Video Portal, 070 Call, shopping and other various functions, on a single device.

In front of Lee Sang-chul and the head of the New Business Division, CEO Kim Ki-hyuk of Sungwoo Mobile, demonstrated how to use a 2-in-1 tablet computer with a Wacom stylus pen, underlining that Sungwoo Mobile tablets’ performance and product quality are as good as those produced by large companies. CEO Kim said he would expand Sungwoo Mobile’s home IoT service portfolio in a way that meets customer needs through the tie-up with LG U+.

On the morning of Jan. 8, Lee Sang-chul and other LG U+ officials paid a visit to the Korea pavilion set up by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), to seek closer cooperation with Korean SMEs. They said “LG U+ is exploring ways to grasp global trends in the future ICT sector, represented by the IoT, smart cars, fintech, artificial intelligence and robotics, and to help new growth engines materialize.”

The tie-up between S. Korea’s third-largest telecom operator and Sungwoo Mobile is in line with Lee Sang-chul’s business philosophy that large companies should share prosperity with SMEs. An LGU+ official said that LG U+ would continue to scale up its cooperation with SMEs.

Sungwoo Mobile has exhibited at CES for the third time, showing off the Connectia M Stylus (a high-performance, Intel Core M-powered tablet), the newly-launched Connectia Book Air, the Cherry 8 (powered by Intel's latest processor Cherry Trail), the Cherry 9.7, the Connectia Cherry 2 in1 (a 2-in-1 tablet), etc.
CES 2016 was a record-breaker as the annual gadget-fest drew north of 3,800 exhibitors from 150 countries this year.
