The sales of 55-inch-or-larger TVs marked a robust growth in the Korean market last year. Samsung Electronics announced on January 13 that the sales of its 55-inch TVs increased by more than 60 percent last year, while those of 60-inch-plus TVs jumped by more than 70 percent.
Among large-sized TVs, 65-inch SUHD TV (65JS9500 model) and 60-inch SUHD TV (60JS7200 model) ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in sales terms.
The home electronics industry expects the share of large TVs in overall TV sales to continue to grow as the individual excise tax which has been applied for large TVs is to be abolished starting from this year.
Market research firm IHS predicted that the average TV size of the global TV market would reach 40 inches this year, first in history. Consumer Report, an American consumer magazine, noted that for households whose distance between TVs and sofas is 2 meters, the optimal TV size is 50 inches for full HD TV and 75 inches for UHD TV.
