Lotte Chairman to 'Fully Support PyeongChang Olympic'

Shin Dong-bin, chairman of Lotte Group and the Korea Ski Association, is set to donate 5 billion won for the test event of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic, according to the company on Sunday. 
 
The test event is an international competition carried out as part of pre-test of the upcoming Olympic. It will start out with a two-day Skiing World Cup of International Ski Federation, which kicks off on Feb. 6.
 
On Friday, Shin reviewed all the event preparation by visiting the ski slope near PyeongChang. The following day, he visited the venues for Ski Jumping International Competition and Nordic Combined Competition to be carried out in South Korea for the first time.
 
The chairman, who used to be a ski player in college, showed off his professional skiing abilities by skiing down the slope at the highest level.
 
"We will take the leadership in popularizing skiing and make glory days of the sports," Shin said when he was inaugurated to become a chairman of the Korea Ski Association in November of 2014.
 
In the intervening year, Shin has significantly expanded overseas training of the players and leaders and providing more rewards to boost their morale. During the period, the days of overseas training of national team members has increased by more than 40 days from the previous year and the number of leaders also rose to 30 from 13.
 
The chairman also set up a system comprising health trainers, physical therapists, engineers and wax specialists to better support the players. For the technical and information exchange, he signed an MOU with the U.S. and Canadian associations.

Shin said he would provide rewards even for players in the fourth to sixth places in order to boost their morale. He also plans to provide incentives to major international competitions including Youth Olympics and World Junior Championships to foster young, talented players.
 
Shin said, "We will continue to aggressively support our players to get the miraculous medals in the Winter Olympics for the first time."
