A Korean Air plane, scheduled to arrive at Jeju International Airport on Jan. 25 at 11:06, landed at the airport with part of its engine cover breaking apart.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOILT) said on Jan. 26 that part of the engine casing of a Korean Air plane was found to have fallen off when the plane landed on the runway. Since shards of metal were found embedded in the wing, engine damage was also suspected.
It took roughly an hour to remove the debris from the runway and carry out precautionary technical checks on the aircraft, consequently causing 10 other flights to be delayed for an hour.
Korean Air has yet to figure out what exactly caused the incident; the MOILT launched an investigation to find out whether the engine cover was damaged by a collision with some object (e.g. a bird strike) or it ripped off when the plane touched down at the airport.
