Renault Samsung's brand-new mid-sized sedan SM6 is showing a sign of becoming a smash hit in the Korean car market. With its preorder sales already exceeding the 5,000 level, the SM6 is emerging as a strong rival against Hyundai Motor's Sonata and Kia Motors' K5.
According to Renault Samsung on February 13, the preorder sales of the SM6, which began from February 1, have already passed the 5,000 mark. Excluding the Lunar New Year holiday period, the preorder sales of the SM6 achieved the milestone just in seven days (on the basis of business days).
This represents an outstanding performance, given that the daily preorder sales of mid-sized sedans are usually averaged at around 400 units. Renault Samsung expects SM6's preorder sales volume to reach 8,000-10,000 by the end of this month. It aims to sell 20,000 SM6's in three months and more than 50,000 this year.
The SM6 has a special meaning for Renault Samsung which suffered a sharp decline in market share last year when it became the only one among Korea's five major car makers not to release new models.
