Samsung Electronics has signed a partnership with the UN to carry out volunteer programs in Latin America, which makes Samsung the first S. Korean company to forge official ties with the UN.
Samsung Electronics has taken up the largest share of the Latin American market for smartphones, tablets and TVs, so its partnership with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is expected to cement its No.1 position in the region.
On April 18, Kim Jung-hwan, manager of Samsung Electronics’ South America headquarters, met with Amanda Mukwashi (U.N. volunteers’ knowledge and innovation team leader) in Sao Paulo, Brazil. And the two signed an agreement to run support programs together for the underprivileged in South America.
Under the partnership, Samsung will provide its employees with educational opportunities by tapping the organization's networks while the UNV will introduce a wider range of activities on the back of Samsung’s technical expertise and knowhow.
