The France-Korea Seminar on Fintech and Fintech Center 9th Demo Day were held on May 30 at InterContinental Seoul COEX in southern Seoul in order to commemorate the 130th anniversary of the two nations forging formal diplomatic relations, according to South Korea's Fintech Center, headed up by Jeong Yu-shin.
The France-Korea Seminar on Fintech was attended by dignitaries including Financial Services Commission Chairman Yim Jong-yong, French Ambassador to South Korea Fabien Penone, Fintech Center Chairman Jeong Yu-shin and Hana Financial Group CFIO Han Jun-seong. Attendees discussed ways to develop the fintech industries of both countries.
France set up the French Tech Hub Seoul in March, as part of La French Tech, a policy that France has been implementing since 2013 so as to promote startups and support their overseas market entry. Under the policy, France has been running French Tech Hubs in major cities, like New York, Tokyo and Seoul. The two-day "French Tech Days in Korea" event was also held on May 30, under the theme of “Fintech, Medtech, E-health and the Internet of Things (IoT).”
On the sidelines of the France-Korea Seminar on Fintech, S. Korea's Fintech Center and the French Tech Hub Seoul signed a memorandum of understanding on mutual exchanges, cooperation and support in the field of fitech.
Furthermore, leading fintech firms of each country signed an MoU on joint development of password protection systems such as OTP (One Time Password) systems.
The France-Korea Seminar on Fintech was divided into two sessions, which were presided over by Choi Kong-Phil, head of the Future Finance Research Center and Jeong Yu-shin, head of the Fintech Center, respectively.
Fintech experts from the Financial Services Commission, the Banque de France, Samsung Electronics, Shinhan Bank, AXA and Thales attended the seminar as panelists.
