The Presidential Council on National Branding, under the supervision of President Lee Myung-bak, held its third meeting on December 11 at the KOICA main auditorium. The main issue of the meeting was to discuss the matter of using the G20 Summit, which will be held next year in Seoul, as an opportunity to improve the nation's image. Results from a survey carried out by the Presidential Council on National Branding last November show that the most important element in successfully hosting the G20 summit and improving the national brand value is the interest and active participation of the nation.
Therefore, raising the interest and participation of the nation through international advertising for the G20 summit was one of the key discussion points of the meeting. The Presidential Council on National Branding will work with related departments to advertise the G20 summit by late next year with various methods including G20 flags, a G20 park, and a street named after the G20 summit. The council will, also work on improving the national brand value through international advertisement on channels like CNN, and BBC. Additionally, the council also has plans to advertise at global events like the Winter Olympics (February), Expo 2010 Shanghai (June to October), and World Cup held in South Africa (June to July)
