Naver's popular photo and video-editing app "Snow" was selected as the most popular app for the Japanese teenagers. Snow came on top in the list of 2016 U19 hit ranking released by Japan's business daily newspaper Nikkei.
The U19 hit ranking refers to the ranking of products and services that enjoy popularity among Japanese teenagers. Snow, which is gaining hot attention across Asia with the number of subscribers recently passing the 5-million mark, also succeeded in gaining the hearts of Japanese teenagers.
Snow greatly outpaced its rival Snapchat which downloads surpassed 40 million, mostly from Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam and China. In this survey, Naver's music streaming service Line Music was positioned at No. 8 in overall product/service ranking, with a high approval rating of 20.2 percent.
Snow carries a dishonorable nickname, Snapchat clone, due to apparent copycat filters with negligible modification, Naver, however, spun off Snow from its subsidiary on Aug. 1.
