Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital (hereafter EWUMH) said on Aug. 23 that it has opened a sexual rehabilitation center for cancer patients suffering from postoperative sexual dysfunction.
The opening ceremony of the center was attended by Kim Seung-cheol, Director of Ewha Womans University Medical Center (EUMC), Ryu Kyung-ha, Director of EWUMH, Jeong Woo-sik, head of the sexual rehabilitation center for cancer patients, Lee Don-hyun, Head of the Bladder Cancer/Artificial Bladder Center, Yoon Hyun-seok, Professor of Urology, etc.
Cancer patients’ sexual dysfunction is a common consequence of radical pelvic surgery. It has been reported that sexual dysfunction caused by postoperative nerve damage is highly prevalent among patients with pancreatic cancer, bladder cancer or rectal cancer and the prevalence varies from 8 to 82%, depending on the type of radical pelvic surgery.
The center plans to focus on active treatment of post-operative sexual dysfunction in the early stages.
For those who haven’t benefitted from taking medications for treating sexual dysfunction can go for penile prosthesis implantation (PPI) as a last resort. Three-piece inflatable penile prostheses (IPPs) are the most frequently implanted devices for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED).
The 3-piece inflatable penile implant helps men with ED achieve the most natural-looking and feeling erection. And 3-piece IPPs have high rates of satisfaction among patients.
Jeong Woo-sik, head of the center, said, “Our sexual rehab center will evolve into a quaternary care center that takes care of not only EWUMH patients but also patients referred from other sexual dysfunction rehab centers.”
